An experiment in self

For years now, I’ve come across people taking drastic measures to “turn their lives around”, “rebuild themselves from zero”, “start a new life”, and the like, in very short periods of immense intensity. I’ve always struggled with change, and found it inspiring that these people were seemingly “able to handle” massive amounts of change and not just survive, but thrive. I’ve decided I’m going to give it a shot.

I’ve gone down a number of rabbit holes as of late, deep diving into the science behind resilience, discipline, and stress testing. Turns out, acclimatization is key. “Thriving” despite mass intensity and change is largely contingent on acclimatizing. Knowing how much I struggle with change, I started wondering how effective this acclimatization would be for me to build resiliency to stress and change. We’re going to find out.

I’ll use August as an experimental period. How much can I adapt to in a short period of time? In line with many of the accounts I’ve seen, I want an answer to “How much of my 5 year plan can I accomplish in 1 month?”. My current, change-apprehensive brain says “not much, you can’t cram 60 months of progress into 1 month”, but the new self I’m building knows the answer is likely far more than I think is possible.

So let’s do it. 30 days to test the limits. 30 days to build towards a new self. 30 days to “cram 60 months of progress into 1 month”. 30 days to do what I’ve long felt I can’t.
